Introduction
Zoclar 500
mg is an antibiotic of the macrolide plain. Zithromax Wikipedia is used to
treat different types of bacterial infections. The active ingredient in Biaxin
is clarithromycin - Penicillin-binding protein among the component used by

protein synthesis by preventing RNA-dependent attachment. It works as

Dosage and
Administration
The adult
dose of Zoclar 500 mg tablet the usual adult dosage is 250 to 500 mg every
twelve hours for at least seven days in the treatment of all indicated
infections that cause you. Pathogen-specific pharmacotherapy (H. pylori
infection) Clarithromycin: PPI + amoxicillin or metronidazole Duration of
treatment 7-14 days.
Important
Points:
The tablets
should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken either during or between
meals.
The entire
course of the medicine must be consumed even if your symptoms are improving
before you take all of the medicines or else antibiotic-resistant bacteria will
result.

Effects

Contraindications
Contraindications
Zoclar 500 mg is contraindicated in;
1. Hypersensitivity: To clarithromycin or any of the
macrolide antibiotics [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1)].
2. QT Interval Prolongation or Ventricular Cardiac
Arrhythmia with tordade de pointes (History)
3. For Patients with Severe Liver Dysfunction: In
combo w/ renal impairment.
4. Cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, or terfenadine due
to the potential for severe cardiac arrhythmias when used concurrently
Drug
Interactions
Due to
CYP3A4 (Cytochrome P450 3A) isoenzymes, clarithromycin exhibits different drug
interactions which may increase other drug's serum levels and toxicity as well.
Notable interactions include:
1. Risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis with statin.
metabolised by CYP3A4(e.g., simvastatin, Iovstatin).
2. Increased bleeding risk, enhancement in
anticoagulant effect of warfarin
3. Antiepileptics Higher carbamazepine and phenytoin
levels
4. Benzodiazepines enhance the effect of midazolam
& triazolam.
Special
Populations
Pregnancy and Lactation:
1. Pregnancy: Clarithromycin
passes into the placenta in normal circumstances; should only be used in
pregnancy based on a risk-benefit analysis.
2. Lactation: Clarithromycin
is excreted in breast milk. Precaution is required apposite to peddling
mothers.
3. Pediatric Use: Clarithromycin
Interestingly, oral clarithromycin is approved as an alternative therapy in
children >6 months of age for several infections. Weight-adjusted dosage
modifications are important.
4. Elderly: The dose
does not need any specific adjustment on account of the age of elderly patients
with normal renal function. Nevertheless, the possibility of greater
sensitivity could not be entirely excluded.
