Introduction Flunil 20 mg is an antidepressant medication that is used for the
treatment of major depressive disorder, some types of obsessive-compulsive
disorder (OCD), and panic disorder. This is a selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitor that functions by increasing serotonin levels, Teva-sertraline
(sertraline) * is a natural substance in the brain that helps to improve mood and
anxiety.

Composition
and Formulation Primary Ingredient: The primary ingredient present in each Flunil 20 mg capsule
is Fluoxetine hydrochloride, present in the strength of 20 mg per tablet. One
of the longest-established SSRIs is Fluoxetine which has been used for many
years in the management of a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
Non-Medicinal
Ingredients: These are
similar in function to excipients, and may be Lactose monohydrate;
croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and other excipients helping
in tablet formulation/stability.
Therapeutic Uses
- Flunil 20 mg is used for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) It relieves symptoms such as continuous sadness, loss of interest in activities, changes in eating and sleep patterns, and guilt or worthlessness.
- Flunil Effectively Reduces the Severity of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Symptoms These may include intrusive, obsessional thoughts and repetitive behaviors or mental acts.
- Bulimia Nervosa: Flunil 20 mg is used to manage the symptoms of bulimia nervosa (a beating disorder that is caused by consuming large meals and removing this by vomiting etc).
Dosage and
Administration Starting Dose
The typical starting dose of Prozac
at any of the indications not mentioned above is 20 mg per day administered
orally. For people who are experiencing insomnia, the dose should be taken early
in the morning.
- Titrating: The dose may be adjusted based on the
response and tolerability of the patient. For depression and OCD, the dose
should be gradually increased, up to 80 mg/day. The recommended dosage for
bulimia nervosa is 60mg a day.
NOTE
- Maintenance Therapy: The maintenance doses should be titrated to the smallest thing tolerated by the patient. Depression may require continuation therapy to prevent regrowth.
- Special Populations: Adjust dosage for elderly patients, hepatic impairment, and CYP2D6 poor metabolizers.
Potential Side Effects

- sexual dysfunction and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Serious Side Effects:
- They May Result in Suicide: Even in young adults and teens, the risk of suicide can be increased.
- Serotonin Syndrome: A life-threatening condition with serious symptoms, including confusion, irritability, rapid heart rate, or high blood pressure; dilated pupils; stiffness or lack of movement in muscles; is digit QT Prolongation - Fluoxetine can prolong the QTc interval (an electrolyte disturbance), predisposing patients to organic heart diseases like dysrhythmia.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity: Flunil should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to it or any of the components.
- Drug Interactions-administration with MAOIs; risk of serotonin syndrome contraindicated.
- Combined Pimozide and Thioridazine (see CONTRAINDICATIONS, Use with Other Pimozide Therapy) QT prolongation leads to ventricular arrhythmias.
Clinical Efficacy Studies
It has been studied in a wide variety of clinical trials that fluoxetine is effective for the treatment of Now onto Depression OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) bulimia nervosa panic disorder Later studies of these interventions tend to demonstrate clinically significant reductions in symptoms relative to placebo.
Maintenance of Efficacy
Studies 1 and 2 were short-term

studies indicated that fluoxetine was effective in maintaining responses in
patients with OCD at doses greater than 20 mg/day up to a maximum dose of 80
mg/day and in preventing relapse in Major Depressive Disorder.
