Mechanism of Action
They are inhibiting renal SGLT2 salt
transporters in the proximal tubules of each smaller (Ledford, 2014). From
there, they go and pick up glucose from the urine back into their blood. It helps
in lowering glucose reabsorption by blocking SGLT2 action dapagliflozin leading
to reduction of blood sugar level and increased excretion through kidneys via
urine.
In addition to
glucose-lowering, dapagliflozin induces osmotic diuresis (increased excretion
of urinary glucose) and natriuresis (losses in sodium), which may be associated
with weight loss [5], and lower blood pressure levels. Dapagliflozin has these additional
advantages that make dapagliflozin a molecule of its kind in the management of diabetes with a multitude of comorbidities.
Therapeutic Uses
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Territorial restrictions and
other terms apply to the use of dapagliflozin 10 mg tablets in adults with type-2
diabetes mellitus. It is usually combined with changes in lifestyle diet, and
exercise. Dapagliflozin Monotherapy AND ≥1 OTHER CONCOMITANT GLUCOSE-LOWERING
MEDICINES (e.g., metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin)

Dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor has

Common Side Effects
Genital Mycotic Infections: There is an increased risk with dapagliflozin of
genital mycotinfections (e.g., vulvovaginitis, balanitis). A lot of

Precautions
- Volume Status: Patients with risk factors like employing loop diuretics should be observed for signs of volume depletion (hypotension, dehydration) and renal.
- Patients with Previous UTIs: Dapagliflozin can lead to the advance of urinary tract infections in some patients, closer monitoring is recommended than for those who have a history of repeat cases.
- Geriatric Patients: Use it with caution among this age group, who may be at higher risk of developing side effects like dehydration, hypotension, and acute kidney injury. Sadock: You may have to adjust dosing and watch the patient more carefully
